Joseph Mole

Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr Mole splits his time between clinical practice and research. He completed his clinical doctorate at University of Oxford and spent six years in the Neuropsychology Department at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where he led the neuropsychology service for traumatic brain injury. He returned to Oxford in 2024 and currently works clinically as Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist at the John Radlicffe Hospital and Director of Thames Neuropsychology.

He completed his PhD in Neuropsychology at the Institute of Neurology (ION) at UCL and was an Honoray Research Associate at the ION for eight years. During this time, he managed a large-scale focal lesion study funded by the National Brain Appeal, which aimed to improve understanding and clinical assessment of difficulties with executive functions: a set of complex thinking skills. The project led to several high impact publications, in journals such as Brain and Cortex, and the creation of several new tests which have the potential for clinical translation.

His current research combines his interests in executive functions with his clinical background in traumatic brain injury. He is a named collaborator on a project funded by the Medical and Life Sciences Translational Fund at University of Oxford that aims to improve how cognitive abilities are routinely screened in people who have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury.

When he is not at work, he can usually be found outdoors, playing his guitar or chasing one of his daughters around the kitchen.
